Global Studies / Handouts for Dec 2-Jan 21 December 12, 2010

Filed under: Class Activities,Homework — Ms. Dillard @ 12:08 pm
Hey Global Studies!
Find below the homework schedule through Jan 21st.  It shows what the homework will be each night, and what is due at the BEGINNING of class each day.

I only have a few extras of the reading packet and you should be very careful not to lose your original copy.  If you do lose your original, I expect you to download and reprint it on your own.  Exception: no printer or printer problems…let me know.  The packet is copyright protected, and so you will need a password to download it.  Email me if you need the password.

Between now and the end of finals, you will do three RSGs (Reading Seminar Guides).  You can download them from below if you either lose the one you received in class, or want to get ahead over the winter break.

  • RSG #1 (goes with pages 1-10 in the packet)
  • RSG #2 (goes with pages 11-19 in the packet)
  • RSG #3 (goes with pages 19-24 in the packet)

You will also write one paragraph for each section of the reading.  The guide for this will be posted tomorrow.

Global Studies / Nov 24-Dec 3 / End of Unit “final” November 29, 2010

Filed under: Class Activities,Homework — Ms. Dillard @ 9:28 pm
Hey Freshmen!
  • We’re finally come to the end of the Imperialism unit.  Rather than testing how much info you can memorize, our “Unit Final” will ask you to apply the information you’ve learned over the past 3 months.
  • This will be an OPEN-NOTE final, and you should bring ALL worksheets and notes that you have from the unit.  The only thing you may not use is the book.
On the final I will give you:
  • 1) Article about a country in Africa which is experiencing some sort of humanitarian crisis at the moment (or in the recent past).  I will limit my choices of countries to those you had to memorize for the map quiz.
  • 2) A blank map
You will have to:
  • 1) Read and text-mark/margin note the article
  • 2) Answer a question about the article in a short paragraph (including a topic sentence)
  • 3) Label the country (that the article is about) on the map
  • 4) Indicate which European country controlled the African country
  • 5) Indicate whether that European country ruled with direct or indirect rule
  • 6) Indicate which Millennium Development Goal(s) would be applicable to solving the issue(s) in the article.
  • Each class will spend one day completing a PRACTICE “Unit final” and the next class completing the “real thing”.

Schedule

2nd Period:
  • Nov 24: 2nd Period takes PRACTICE “Unit final”
  • Nov 30: 2nd Period takes REAL “Unit final” /

5th Period:

  • Dec 1: 5th Period takes PRACTICE “Unit final”
  • Dec 3: 5th Period takes REAL “Unit final”

6th Period:

  • Nov 30: 6th Period takes PRACTICE “Unit final”
  • Dec 2: 2nd Period takes REAL “Unit final”
